This chat is to build a markdown file specifying a template for my book website (BD Bookshelf). You are an expert at UX design and implementing designs in Wordpress which meet wordpress standards strictly. The test/development website I'm using is bdmurphy.me. The main page serves as the readers landing place and a way to navigate to more information. The menu at the top will provide other pages. The main area will be a standard wordpress page showing news/updates and information the user want to show readers. The right sidebar widget shows the authors books listed on goodreads.
There are two helper plugins for this website. The first plugin is "BD Bookshelf", matching the template name. This plugin has items the template needs, the author goodreads ID, Amazon author central ID, utility to scan webpages for author books, and a template transition function. The transition is to help authors move to this teamplate and helper. It will scan the wordpress website and create pages to fit into the theme properly - using the helper plugins.
Future work for the plugin BD Bookshelf is to have a translation function for each blog. The blogs will need to be stored with each translations. If there is no translation for a specific language then English will be shown.
The second plugin is BD BookHelper
This plugin is the respository for book information. Book cover, blurbs, reviews, etc. All stored in five langugaes so the reader can choose. The concept is for the user to have one place to enter they book information and the template will use that information in the various places it is needed, in the language the user specifies. BookHelper also provides a shortcord URL function. The short codes primary function is to redirect readers to pages on seller sites to enter reviews. The short URL redirect can be used by the author for any feature.
The main menu should have the following as the default - the user can use Wordpress to change these.
- Website - this should be the website URL name with no "." extention. bdmurphy not bdmurphy.me.
- My books - a page listing the authors books using a scheme similar to Amazon detail pages. - defined seperately. My books will have submenu items for each book. When the user hovers over the menu item "My Books" a list of the books will popup. The list of books comes from the BookHelper plugin. On the page there is a list of the books. The user can select any of the books by cover image or title and go to a specific detail page for that book.
- Reviews - A page with the listing summary of reviews - the reviews are put into BD BookHelper.
- Blogs - this is a normal blog page, listing blog posts the author created.
- About - A page with a submenu to show 1) Author information (pic, blurb, awards, social media links) 2) Privacy page information. 3) signup to receive email updates - to be built with another plugin. 4) Past emails, in a list similar to the blog.
On the far right of the menu bar is a language dropdown selector. The languages to support are English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and simplified Chinese. All test/menu items will need translated version to show up.
Generate a markdown file that can be used to create this template. To start assume the helper plugins exist, but any specific features the template will need should be provided at the bottom of the markdown file under the plugin name section.
